ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENTS AND COMPLIANCE CONSULTANT 

Hygieneering, Inc., an established Chicago based environmental, health and safety (EHS) consulting firm, seeks an Environmental, Assessments and Compliance Consultant with 3-7 years of experience.

​

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

​

Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:​

  • Developing client specific proposals in response to various RFPs for Environmental Due Diligence and Environmental Studies.

  • Conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and managing various types of Environmental Due diligence as determined by findings of Phase I and Phase II studies and client objectives for the property.

  • Providing clients with EPA, TACO and SRP regulatory compliance guidance and services 

  • Preparing annual EPCRA TRI and Tier II reports

  • Consulting and assisting clients with corrective actions associated with EPA notices of violations.

  • Managing Hygieneering client environmental projects safely, legally, accurately and profitably.

  • Generating site specific soil sampling plans, managing site characterization, defining necessary lab analyses for manifesting soils/spoils for disposal or remediation to approved Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facilities (TSDs).

  • Managing Environmental field work including site utility locators, subcontracted drillers, collection of soil borings and water samples, submittal of samples to accredited labs.

  • Coordinating with labs to get proper sampling media/collection containers, performance of required analytical methods with turnaround times to meet client objectives and project parameters.

  • Interpreting lab analytical reports to prepare draft client reports noting site conditions with recommended actions for regulatory compliance and the protection of health and safety of client employees and site workers.

  • Performing soil, water and air sampling to characterize site conditions and prepare reports of findings and recommendations for compliance.

  • Managing client expectations on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Attending client and association meetings/events.

REQUIREMENTS:​​​​

​

  • Working knowledge of EPA, TSCA, RCRA, EPCRA and IL environmental rules SRP and TACO

  • 3-7 years of environmental consulting industry work experience 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and analytical skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or related field 

  • Credentials such as a CHMM, 40-hr. HAZWOPER, 30-hr. OSHA 

  • Ability to identify and prioritize environmental risks and hazards.

  • Ability to interpret, summarize and accurately report laboratory sampling data.

  • Proven computer skills in all aspects of Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to wear and work in PPE (Respiratory protection, fall protection, protective outerwear, etc.)

  • Knowledge of OSHA health and safety rules

  • Available to work various hours, possible weekends, and emergency call outs.

  • Local travel in the Chicagoland area and potentially throughout the US

ENTRY-LEVEL ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY (EHS) TECHNICIAN 

Hygieneering, Inc. is an established Chicago-based environmental, health, and safety (EHS) consulting firm. We provide a wide range of professional EHS services to clients across multiple industries. We are seeking an Entry-Level Environmental, Health & Safety Technician to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about safety, enjoys fieldwork, and wants to build a long-term career in EHS consulting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

​You will receive comprehensive company-sponsored internal and external training, including classroom and on-the-job instruction. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting safety and environmental inspections of worksites and preparing detailed reports.

  • Delivering OSHA and EPA compliance training on topics such as:

    • First Aid, CPR & AED, Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, etc.

    • Forklift/Powered Industrial Truck operations (sit-down, stand-up, reach truck, order picker, walk-behind, rough terrain/telehandler)

    • Aerial Lift operations (scissor lift, boom lift, single man lift, manual lifts)

    • Respiratory Protection

  • Performing hoist and sling safety inspections.

  • Conducting industrial hygiene air and noise sampling.

  • Performing environmental inspections and sampling for asbestos, lead, and mold.

  • Conducting construction site safety inspections.

  • Performing indoor air quality assessments and testing.

  • Administering qualitative and quantitative respirator fit testing.

  • Preparing technical and analytical reports.

​

REQUIREMENTS

  • Certificate or Associate degree in Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Science, Biology, or related field (equivalent experience considered).

  • 0–3 years of relevant work experience; construction experience a plus.

  • Willingness to work outdoors and in industrial/construction environments.

  • Interest in pursuing professional certifications sponsored by the company (e.g., ASP, CSP).

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (respiratory protection, fall protection, protective clothing, etc.).

  • Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Office.

  • Willingness to learn OSHA 29 CFR 1910 (General Industry) and 1926 (Construction) standards, as well as EPA regulations.

  • Availability for varied hours, occasional weekends, and emergency call-outs.

  • Willingness to travel locally (Chicagoland area) and occasionally nationwide for projects, including extended assignments.
