Mid-lvl Safety
MID-LEVEL SAFETY CONSULTANT 

Hygieneering is searching for a Mid-Level Safety Consultant to join our Environmental Health & Safety Group. Position has the potential for advancement and opportunities to throughout Operations in the Company. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in the field of environmental, health and safety. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Duties and responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Develop safety policies and procedures in compliance with Local, State, and Federal agencies including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other regulatory bodies​

  • Perform environmental, health, and safety assessments and audits to assist in preventing/reducing risk of injuries/illness to employees, to reduce worker compensation, and to help prevent/reduce property and liability losses.

  • Develop and deliver various OSHA compliance training (via power point or other training module format)

  • Consult and assist clients during OSHA inspections and abatement of violations. 

  • Define client needs, developing project scopes and pricing, establishing service agreements, project scheduling, project assignment, project management, and final report review. 

  • Conduct specific safety and health analyses/assessments such as, but not limited to job hazard analysis, personal protective equipment, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, confined space, and process hazard analysis. 

  • Manage multiple high priority projects simultaneously

  • Attend client and association meetings/events 

  • Liaison for field EHS consultants

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:​

  • ​Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety or related field

  • 3-7 years of EHS experience in general industry plus some construction is a plus

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is a plus

  • Ability to write and update safety and health procedures

  • Ability to identify and prioritize environmental, health and safety risks

  • Leadership, coaching, and team management skills required

  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Available to work various hours, work shifts, and possible weekends

  • Good communication skills with all levels of personnel and management

  • Ability to work in various work environments, including outdoors, heavy manufacturing, and construction sites

  • Self-motivated and diligent to complete tasks on own schedule  

  • Problem Solving: ability to identify complex issues and resolve them

  • Computer skills: advanced user in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)

  • Organization: ability to manage multiple tasks, schedule changes, and projects while prioritizing each item

  • OSHA Knowledge: familiarity with general requirements, with the ability to research regulations and maintain knowledge of changing requirements

  • Travel within the continental United States is required.

EHS PM
EHS SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER (Asbestos, Lead & Air Monitoring) 

Hygieneering is searching for an Environmental Health And Safety (EHS) Senior Project Manager to join our Environmental Services Group. Position has the potential for advancement and opportunities to throughout Operations in the Company. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in the field of environmental, health and safety. 

 

The EHS Senior Project Manager will support our Environmental Services Group. We are currently seeking individuals who have their Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Asbestos Inspector, Project Manager and/or Air Sampling Professional Licenses. We are looking for individuals who have 5 to 10 years’ experience in the Asbestos, Lead and Hazardous Materials Industry in Illinois. Specialized training will also be provided in other company departments.

 

OSHA 30-hour General Industry training, HAZWOPER training, aerial lift (scissor lift and man lift) training, fall protection training, respiratory protection training, confined space  etc. is desired and will be provided. All fees for training and licensing are paid for by Hygieneering. Special consideration will be given to any applicants who hold current asbestos/lead certifications and licenses.
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Duties and responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • ​Assist our team in providing state of the art asbestos, lead, and hazardous materials inspection services. 

  • Assist in designing asbestos/lead abatement projects.

  • Collect samples as required by various regulatory agencies, complete data sheets, chain of custody forms, and prepare samples for shipment to laboratory.

  • Perform asbestos and lead project management and air monitoring/analysis per IDPH regulations during on-going abatement projects. 

  • Maintain daily logs of activities related to project work.

  • Perform project oversight and coordination with contractors.

  • Interact and communicate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agency representatives.

  • Operate and maintain instruments including sampling pumps, calibrators/rotometers, and microscopes.

  • Prepare inspection and project management reports.

​

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:​

  • High School Diploma required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Occupational Health and Safety or other relevant majors, is a plus. 

  • 5 years' experience performing asbestos and lead inspection/industrial hygiene sampling.

  • IDPH Asbestos/Lead Inspector, Project Manager and Air Sampling Professional Licenses

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Competence in computer skills and Microsoft Office software suite

  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and/or blueprints.

  • Ability to use tablets to assist in field inspection duties.

  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record (required)

  • Ability to perform the duties of a building inspector (i.e. ladders, lifts, power tools).

  • Be able to wear a respirator, safety harness and other safety equipment as needed.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, physical and motor vehicle records check as well as be entered into a random testing program.

ASB & Lead
INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE FIELD TECHNICIAN (Asbestos, Lead & Air Monitoring) 

Hygieneering is searching for an Industrial Hygiene Field Technician to join our Asbestos and Lead Services Group. Position has the potential for advancement and opportunities to work with other Company Service Groups. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in the field of environmental, health and safety. 

 

The Industrial Hygiene Field Technician will support our Asbestos and Lead Services Group in Willowbrook, Illinois. We are currently seeking individuals who have their Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Asbestos Inspector, Project Manager and/or Air Sampling Professional Licenses. We are looking for individuals who are willing to learn from the ground up. Specialized training will be provided. Some of this training will include classes to obtain licenses by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). 

 

OSHA 30-hour General Industry training, HAZWOPER training, NIOSH 582 Air Sampling training, aerial lift (scissor lift and man lift) training, fall protection training, respiratory protection training, etc. will also be provided. All fees for training and licensing are paid for by Hygieneering. Special consideration will be given to any applicants who already have asbestos certifications and licenses.

  • Maintain daily logs of activities related to project work.

  • Perform project oversight and coordination with contractors.

  • Interact and communicate with clients, contractors and regulatory agency representatives.

  • Read project specifications and drawings.

  • Prepare reports.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High School Diploma required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Occupational Health and Safety or other relevant majors, is a plus. 

  • 2 years experience performing asbestos and lead inspection / industrial hygiene sampling 

  • IDPH Asbestos Inspector, Project Manager and Air Sampling Professional Licenses

  • Must be able to pass EPA training and obtain state asbestos licensing

  • Willingness to learn and become fluent in regulatory requirements – EPA and OSHA

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to read piping diagrams and/or blueprints

  • Ability to use tablets to assist in field inspection duties

  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record (required)

  • Ability to carry and climb ladders and being able to use hand and power tools.

  • Be able to wear a respirator, safety harness and other safety equipment as needed.

Internships
INTERNSHIPS - Hygieneering, Inc., a premier full-service, environmental, health, and safety consulting company has internship positions available for 2024. Our internships offer exciting opportunities to work with experienced and credentialed EHS Professionals and learn about industrial hygiene, safety, indoor air quality investigations, asbestos project management, as well as other aspects of the EHS field.

INTERNSHIP TRAINING OBJECTIVES:
Training objectives for the internship will include, but not be limited to:

​

Objective 1 – Asbestos project management.

  • Obtain sample collection media

  • Calibration of low and high-volume pumps

  • Perform site assessments 

  • Complete Chain-of-Custody Forms/Submit samples to labs for analysis 

  • Interpret results and compare results to regulatory guidelines

  • Assist in preparing final reports for clients 

​

Objective 2 – Learn and be able to collect water samples for analysis.

  • Order sample collection media

  • Perform site assessments and collect necessary water samples

  • Complete Chain-of-Custody / Submit samples to labs for analysis 

  • Interpret results and compare results to regulatory guidelines

  • Assist in preparing final reports for clients 

 

Objective 3 – Learn and be able to develop energy control procedures per OSHA 1910.147 requirements.

  • Perform hazard Assessments of machines to determine proper shutdown and isolation methods 

  • Based on the hazard assessment, develop an energy control procedure per the requirements for OSHA 1910.147 requirements

 

Objective 4 – Learn and be able to perform general indoor air quality assessments.

  • Order sample collection media and sampling equipment

  • Perform site assessments using direct read monitors for temperature, humidity, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and VOCs.  In addition, use equipment to sample for other contaminants (e.g. formaldehyde, mold spores, etc.)

  • Perform HVAC inspections. 

  • Complete Chain-of-Custody Forms/Submit samples to labs for analysis 

  • Interpret results and compare results to regulatory guidelines

  • Assist in preparing final reports for clients 

​

Objective 5 – Learn and be able to perform general industrial hygiene assessments related to noise and air contaminants.

  • Order sample collection media and sampling equipment

  • Perform site assessments, collect necessary noise and air samples

  • Complete Chain-of-Custody / Submit samples to labs for analysis 

  • Interpret results and compare results to regulatory guidelines

  • Assist in preparing final reports for clients 

 

Objective 6 – Perform general industry and construction site inspections.

  • Perform general industry and construction site safety inspections to identify potential OSHA compliance issues in their manufacturing areas. Develop a report of findings and recommendations.

​

Objective 7 – Respiratory fit testing and training.

  • Perform respiratory protection training 

  • Perform respiratory protection qualitative and quantitative (portacount) fit-testing procedures and protocol.

​

Objective 8 – Learn and be able to characterize spaces as permit or non-permit, per OSHA 1910.146 requirements.

  • Perform site assessments of the workplace to determine if any spaces are permit-required non-permit confined spaces.

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Local travel throughout the Chicagoland area and potential travel throughout the US.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Students working towards completion of their Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or equivalent

  • Available to work various hours, work shifts, and possible weekends

  • Solid computer skills in all aspects of Microsoft Office 

  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Team player and self-starter
