INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE TECHNICIAN - Hygieneering, Inc. seeks to hire a part-time contract-based Industrial Hygiene Technician for a project in the Chicagoland area.
Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
  • Workplace exposure monitoring – Perform exposure monitoring and surveillance as directed by industrial hygiene SMEs working under approved work planning and control documents.
    • Execute workplace exposure monitoring plans for routine surveillance of chemical and physical hazards.
    • Prepare field data sheets and enter data into IH data management system (Cority).
    • Draft workplace monitoring reports.
    • Assist with equipment calibrations and procedures as requested.
  • Support Subject Matter Experts (SME) – Provide assistance to industrial hygiene SMEs as needed.
    • Participate in field visits and safety reviews.
    • Assist with hazard identification and control.

 

32 hours per week, normal business hours for one year. Expected hours are 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM but may vary depending on customer needs.


Expected workdays are Monday through Thursday with an option to reschedule work to a Friday and have a different day off during the week when necessary.


Option for overtime work in the evening and on Saturdays when necessary.

TRAINING OR UNIQUE SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, Safety or equivalent

  • 0-1 years of relevant general industry work experience, as well as some construction experience, is a plus

  • Available to work various hours, possible weekends and emergency call-outs.

  • Solid computer skills in all aspects of Microsoft office

  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Team player and ability to work independently

INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE TECHNICIAN - REFINERY - Hygieneering, Inc. seeks an Industrial Hygienist for a project in the Chicagoland suburbs.

JOB SUMMARY:

This person will conduct industrial hygiene surveys for chemical, biological and/or physical hazards of employees to assure compliance with state and federal regulations as well as Company standards.  Assist in reviewing and updating site procedures to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.  The individual will work with various refinery departments to address specific health and safety issues and develop the proper engineering, administrative or PPE controls. Will also oversee the execution of facility ergonomics program.

Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
  • Develop and conduct yearly employee exposure assessment

  • Coordinate the calibration and repair of air monitoring instruments required for work permitting.  Task includes maintenance of all Health and Safety monitoring equipment as well as auditing for proper maintenance of Operations multi-gas instruments.

  • Maintain facility SDS system.

  • Provide training and support (classroom and CBT review) for programs that are overseen by IH.

  • General IH Support to Refinery

  • Maintain and assure proper population of the IH related database

  • Support refinery Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) by qualifying as backup RSO conducting field audits, conducting surveys as needed and maintaining regulatory paperwork

 

TRAINING OR UNIQUE SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Safety or equivalent experience in lieu of degree.

  • Work from elevated heights.

  • Able to perform confined space entry.

  • Able to wear additional PPE (Respiratory protection, fall protection, protective outerwear, etc.)

  • Knowledge of field sampling instruments and techniques.

  • Knowledge of occupational standards and sampling equipment.

  • Ability to interpret, summarize and report sampling data.

  • Strong technical writing and oral communication skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft office products.

  • Strong aptitude for computer and various software applications.

  • Ability to work extended hours including emergency call outs.

ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY CONSULTANT (MID-SENIOR LEVEL) - Hygieneering, Inc. seeks to hire a full-time or contract-based Environmental, Health and Safety Consultant.

Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Providing interim EHS support to general industry and/or construction clients;

  • Evaluating EHS management systems to determine areas for immediate/continuous improvement

  • Developing EHS program, policies and procedures;

  • Developing and delivering various OSHA compliance training (via PowerPoint or other training module format);

  • Conducting inspections and audits of both general industry and construction worksites and providing audit reports;

  • Work with client employee safety workgroups for items like toolbox talks, safety committees, etc…;

  • Preparing environmental reports such as Tier II, TRI, and annual air emission reports;

  • Assisting in preparing and updating SWPPP and SPCC plans;

  • Performing water sampling for various contaminants;

  • Conducting inspections and audits of both general industry and construction worksites and providing audit reports;

  • Developing lockout/tagout procedures for various manufacturing and building operation equipment;

  • Performing risk assessments, job safety analysis (JSA), and developing standard operating procedures (SOP);

  • Performing respiratory training and fit-testing;

  • Performing confined space inventory assessments, hoist and sling safety inspections, industrial hygiene air and noise sampling, and indoor air quality assessments;

  • Preparing technical reports;

  • Remote work may be considered for some project-specific work.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Local travel throughout the Chicagoland area and travel throughout the US. Potential for extended out-of-town travel.

 

TRAINING OR UNIQUE SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, Safety or equivalent

  • 3+ years of relevant general industry work experience, as well as some construction experience, is a plus

  • Professional certifications are a plus

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus

  • Available to work various hours, possible weekends and emergency call-outs.

  • Ability to work in various work environments, including outdoors, heavy manufacturing, and construction sites.

  • Able to wear additional PPE (Respiratory protection, fall protection, protective outerwear, etc.)

  • Knowledge of OSHA 1910 general industry regulations

  • Knowledge of OSHA 1926 construction and EPA regulations are a plus

  • Ability to identify and prioritize environmental, health and safety risks

  • Ability to interpret, summarize and report sampling data

  • Solid computer skills in all aspects of Microsoft office

  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Capable of managing multiple projects and schedule changes

  • Team player and ability to work independently

  • Team player and self-starter

  • Self-motivated and diligent to complete tasks on own schedule
