Final Rule to Protect Workers from Beryllium Exposure

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued a final rule to prevent chronic beryllium disease and lung cancer in American workers by limiting their exposure to beryllium and beryllium compounds. The rule reduces the permissible exposure limit (PEL) for beryllium by a factor of 10 from 2 to 0.2 micrograms per cubic meter of air, averaged over 8-hours. The rule takes effect March 17, 2017.
